Friday Level II-III Class CANCELLED permanently

Filed under: Classes, Schedule — bb @ 8:54 pm

OM
Hello Yogis.

I’m sorry to say that the Friday, Level II-III Iyengar Yoga Class on Fridays 10-12 noon is now permanently CANCELLED starting Sept. 14, 2012

This has been a long time coming, the “numbers” are down, people have moved away/ dropped out and honestly I’m burnt out.
By having my Friday mornings back I will gain a fantastic three hour self-practice session and a bit more needed sleep.

I thank all of you regular students for your enthusiasm and attendance over the years.
The Friday class was the first of the classes I ever taught in Woodstock.
It holds many fond memories for me here at my Home Studio and at Mtn. View Studio.

As the fall/ winter season progresses at Woodstock Yoga Center,
I might be able to offer a more advanced class there.
I hope also to offer monthly workshops, once my stamina improves.
Hold tight, and send me your preferred times, dates, suggestions for future classes/ workshops.
And no, I don’t know what I’m doing about India or Assessment at this time.
I will let you know as soon as I know.

At this point, I would suggest that you attend my Tuesday 6-7:30 p.m. class at Clear Yoga, Rhinebeck.
This is the next strongest level class that I teach. The size is small-ish (8 regular people usually attend), and we have ropes for all. The students there are strong and a great group. You will all fit in great.

Another option is the Level I-II Class at Woodstock Yoga on Wednesdays, 4:30-6:00 p.m.
This class is a bit lower level than Friday’s but I will be tough on you, if you attend, to keep you and your yoga sharp!

And, or, also, please use this new time to work on your self-practice!
At Level II-III we should be “working on” the Junior Intro I Syllabus.
Take a look at that list and work on stabilizing these asanas.
At this level in Iyengar Yoga, you should have a strong daily practice.
Contact me if you want assistance with what that should look, if you don’t know by now.

I can provide the Syllabus and a copy of The Preliminary Course Book ($20) for you if you don’t have it to work from.

Another option would be to take a monthly private session with me.
A number of my students do that right now, using a regular monthly private session to supplement their own home practice.
This gives you a chance to answer questions, and have me give direction on what to do next with your yoga.
Privates are $100/ hour or $450 for a series of 5 (when paid in advance and used within 6 months.)
I give privates on Monday afternoons, Tuesday & Wednesday mornings at my Home Studio.

For those of you who have a credit left on your Yoga Class Cards with me,
I offer you 2 options: either you can use them to classes with me at Woodstock Yoga only, (not Clear Yoga),
and get $5 back each time credit (because class time is less there and cheaper).
Or I can “cash you out” and give you a refund for any spots left on your card.
I will be contacting you directly with your balance.

I love you all and hope you understand.
Already I feel a big relief and space in my health and practice making this decision.
I will see you around soon…

OM OM OM
love,
Barbara

Friday Class – SNOW??? UPDATE 9 a.m.

Filed under: Asana, Classes, Schedule, Woodstock Events, Yoga — bb @ 9:07 pm

Lots of snow on the grass, but the driveway isn’t bad.

CLASS IS ON!

OM
Who knows!?!?
Here is the latest from my FB pal Alex: He’s the man re: all weather issues…
I say COME! Drive carefully, and park carefully. If there is a huge snow event, I’ll let you know when I wake up where you can park.
But come on by!
more Back Bending!!!

Hudson Valley Weather

Important Update: (3 minutes ago… 7:57 p.m. Thursday)

Here’s the facts…. Temps are dropping quickly in response to clear skies. As you can see from the observations in the below post that we have temps ranging from 32-45 across the HV. When precip begins after midnight temps will also take another dip and if the info from the NWS in Albany serves true then the start of the precip may be quite heavy, this will cause a sharper drop in  temps and also quickly overcome any warm surfaces it is trying to accumulate on. Every hour that clear skies hold on across the HV temps will continue to drop, so its easy to figure that between all these factors most of the HV will get to 32 deg or lower be after midnight. Now to make this even more interesting both the NAM and HRRR which are good short range models are depicting 4-6 and even 8 inches of snow “see below post by Brent for HRRR” Now these models tend to be bullish with amounts at times but overall are accurate models. But we also have snow ratio’s to contend with, and with temps right around freezing they will be very low, resulting in a wet snow that will not pile up to quickly. This is going to be a now-casting event and I want to make sure you are all informed and aware of the wide range of possibilities that exist as this has become a bit of a challenging forecast. I have posted the forecast discussion from the NWS below. Stay tuned as me and everyone else continue to watch new data as it arrives and keep and eye on local observations to get a better handle on this situation. Again, this morning I posted 3-6 in the highest elevations and 1-2 in the valley, it’s the valley prediction, north of poughkeepsie that is in the biggest danger of being low at this point.

Twisting Workshop this Weekend

Filed under: Asana, Classes, Iyengar, Schedule, Woodstock Events, Yoga — bb @ 4:45 pm

Twisting is one of the most powerful tools we have in yoga asana practice. Besides creating flexibility in the spine, the parivritta (twisting) action opens the nadis (energy channels) and deeply massages the organs. Twisting, bending and binding also detoxifies the system, bringing rejuvenation, clarity and balance into the body. This class through it’s intelligent Iyengar sequencing will create heat to challenge and clear out your body and nervous system for a deep long suppported savasana at the end that will leave you feeling pleasantly wrung out, fresh and restored to finish up the winter.
