In the Fall of 2008, I attended an Iyengar Intensive with FRANCOIS RAOULT in Rochester, New York. I was so inspired and excited by his teaching that I immediately invited him to come to Woodstock to present to you his knowledge of Iyengar Yoga. Last Fall’s workshop on Pranayama and Ayurveda was well attended. Here’s your chance to see him again… or for the first time.

I realized then that many Woodstock students have a limited view of yoga. We are a small town. But the power of following a strong system like Iyengar Yoga is that the lineage is CLEAR. The beauty of the teaching comes though as you study with different teachers. François is a master teacher: in Yoga and the related Indian arts and sciences.

For those of you who were “scared off” by previous weekend intensives, this seminar is for you! The majority of the work will be on Tadasana (Mountain Pose) “just standing around!” In this yoga seminar we will practice postural awareness and alignment in daily life postures as well as in standing and sitting yoga asanas. The yoga and the asana will be presented clearly. It will not be a difficult class asana-wise. But I assure you that you will come away from the weekend inspired for your fall practice season of yoga. NON-IYENGAR STUDENTS are WELCOME TO COME. This will be a very inclusive workshop.

We will also look at François’s internationally acclaimed slide show on Posture. The slides are of people from all around the world standing, walking, carrying on the head and sitting. We will explore how yoga practice and daily life patterns of movement are deeply connected.

This Workshop is Designed to Help Participants:

Open and facilitate the practice of such disciplines as yoga, music, sports and meditation.

Prevent or minimize pain or discomfort in daily movement and at work.

Appreciate and observe human postural alignment in other cultures: Africa, Asia and traditional ares of Europe through discussion and slide presentation.

Registration is limited to 40 participants. Sign up soon.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Woodstock is beautiful in the fall. The leaves won’t be turning yet, but the weather should be perfect. Those of you coming from the city or elsewhere, make a weekend or a holiday of it. There is plenty to do in Woodstock: Tibetan & Zen Monasteries, Overlook Mountain, fresh air, good food. Please email me if you need directions and hotel or B&B accommodations. Woodstock is an easy two hour drive from NYC depending on the traffic leaving the City. If you don’t drive, want to save on gas money, or be green about it you can easily take the Trailways bus (only 2 hours) from Port Authority. The bus drops you in the center of Woodstock for your lodging and it’s an easy stroll to get to Mountain View Studio and the local cafes. Let me know if you need more information.

CANCELLATION
If you must cancel, you will get a full refund only if your spot can be filled. Otherwise I will hold a $25 cancellation fee.

Intro to Iyengar Yoga Class

my email: bxboris@yahoo.com

The class will be very basic and different from a normal class:

- one hour exactly (or shorter!)
- only 6 asanas (poses)
- different asanas each class
- salamba sarvangasana (shoulder stand) will be taught in every class
- student doesn’t need to know how to do sarvangasana,
but must be willing to try (NO NECK or SERIOUS BACK INJURIES!)
- instruction will be on defining the shape of each asana and a few basic actions
- each asana will be taught for just 6 minutes
- I will be timing my teaching of each asana
- class will be video taped for my assessment of teaching skills
- I will not move the camera around, students will only be seen from behind
- the video is for me to see how I teach, not about you or how you do the asana
- long final relaxation

You can see some pictures of past retreats here and at flickr.
For VIDEOS click here.

Please email me or call me right away to reserve your space.p.s. If you really want to come, but can only commit to one day, give me a call and I’ll see if we can work something out, those coming for both days have priority.

This will be a General Level Workshop (a *strong* Level I-II). The afternoon session on Saturday and Sunday morning’s work will build on principles taught in the previous classes. Please try to attend all sessions for continuity of teaching and best understanding. Those students signing up for the whole weekend will have priority. If you can only attend one day, make it on Saturday unless you are a regular student of mine or Kevin’s. Single day cost is $150. *** Please contact me if you can only attend on Sunday. You will need Kevin’s or my permission. Thanks.

We always have a great and inspiring time when Kevin comes to teach. His workshops usually SELL OUT, so contact me as soon as possible if you are interested in attending. Your CHECK or CASH made out to BARBARA BORIS, will hold your spot. Woodstock is beautiful in the early winter/late fall. Those of you coming from the city, make a weekend or holidsy of it. If you need lodging information let me know. There is plenty to do in Woodstock: Tibetan & Zen Monasteries, Overlook Mountain, fresh air.

Students coming from NYC or elsewhere, please email me for directions and hotel or B&B accommodations. I recommend you make your hotel reservations as soon as possible, since it is in the middle of the summer. Woodstock is an easy two hour drive from NYC depending on the traffic leaving the City. If you don’t drive, want to save on gas money, or be green about it you can easily take the Trailways bus (only 2 hours) from Port Authority. The bus drops you in the center of Woodstock for your lodging and you take an easy stroll to get to Mtn. View Studio and the local cafes. Let me know if you need more information.

The Millennium marked thirty years of Yoga practice for Kevin. He is a Certified Iyengar Instructor and has made two extended trips to India to study with the Iyengars in Pune. He is a core faculty member and co-founder of the Iyengar Institute of New York, where he teaches regularly and continues his studies with his senior teacher Mary Dunn. Kevin is known for his dynamic and inspiring teaching style. He is precise and detailed in his instructions, graceful in demonstrations, and has a light-hearted and off-beat New York sense of humor. In November 2006, Kevin married, sold his apartment in New York, took a leave of absence from the Iyengar Institute and relocated to Budapest, Hungary. He is now teaching (in English) at Amrita Yoga.

***These workshops will be limited to practicing Iyengar Yoga Students only. Those who regularly attend Iyengar yoga classes will get first priority, as we expect to fill the room, and we want to keep the level of teachings high and inspiring. Iyengar Basics MUST be known. Space is limited. Note to Level I Students: If you are not sure if you are ready yet, give me a call and we can talk about it. If you are not a regular Iyengar student, call me and we can talk about whether this workshop will be appropriate for your level of yoga knowledge and physical ability.***

NOTE: If you must cancel, there is a $25 cancellation fee.

“…Dr. Miller suspects that that mechanism is exhaustion, either directly or through biochemical processes that accompany fatigue. Certain mechanisms within muscles have been found, in animal and limited human studies, he says, to start misfiring when a muscle is extremely tired. Small nerves that should keep the muscle from overcontracting malfunction, and the muscle bunches when it should relax. Pickle juice may work…”
