PARIVARTINI EKADASHI is observed during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in the month of Bhadrapad. Parivartini Ekadashi is observed during the Chatur Mas and Dakshinayana period. It is the night time of Devas. There is a popular belief that during this Ekadasi, Lord Vishnu changes the position of his sleep. In 2009, the date of Parivartini Ekadashi is August 31.
Legend has it that Lord Vishnu who is taking rest during the period of Dakshinayana, changes his position of sleep – turns from left side to right side on the Ekadasi day in the Shukla Paksha of Bhadra month. Therefore this Ekadashi is also known as Parsva Parivartini Ekadashi.
Vishnu (’the All-Pervading’), maintainer of the universe, ruler of Sattva. He reclines on Ananta S’esha, the many-headed serpent; out of His navel arises the four-headed Brahma & Lakshmi, wife of Vishnu and Goddess of Fortune. (more…)
You know I love India. If any of you out there are interested in earning $24,000, maybe you can be an India lover too AND help them out! This is a huge problem there…. I witnessed it myself this year. Kids were coming from far away states and the locals in Goa were in awe. Very few can do this work anymore.

We at Woodstock Yoga, at Mountain View Studio in Woodstock, on Sunday, August 16, 2009, from 10-11:30 am chanted OM MANI PADME HUM 1080 times (20 people, 54 mantras) as a group, and then random mantras in class approximately 300 (total) times.
