If you didn’t hear this, give it a listen. 4 minutes commentary about Indians and Yoga. Unfortunately when he interviewed Kate, the director of Enlighten Up, she talked about KPJ not BKS. The fact is that the majority of students in classes at the Iyengar Institute in Pune are Indians. NPR, get the reporting straight please.

Please read:

If the weather is questionable I WILL POST NOTICE OF THE CLASS CANCELLATION TWO HOURS BEFORE CLASS START TIME. That way those of you who drive some distance will know what’s going on before you set out. PLEASE check one of the following modalities on Snow Days to see if class is on. I have a huge email list from all over the world and I don’t want to bother the people who aren’t local about class details.

My WEBSITE: http://barbaraborisyoga.com/
or  http://woodstockyoga.net

My YOGA PHONE message: 845 679-3728
(PLEASE do not call my home number, thank you!)

I will also “try” to email the most current students if I have your email address. I don’t promise that I will do it every storm. This means if you normally come to that class, you might get an email. Make sure I have your most updated email. If you haven’t been to class in 2 months, I won’t be emailing you.

I apologize for anyone that showed up for class on Monday. But there WAS a blizzard going on! I was not plowed out and the roads had not been cleared by my house.

“Boxing Day” Sun., Dec. 26 Class – FAITH

Filed under: Classes, Schedule, Yoga — bb @ 12:02 am

CELEBRATE THE FEAST OF FAITH AND JOY

Faith is based on genuineness, trusting in yourself and your vision. You are not faking anything, and you are not trying to impress anybody. Faith inspires discipline, which is not based on punishment or arbitrary rules and authority, but rather on becoming thoroughly gentle and genuine. Discipline guides you and shows you how to live in the warrior’s world. With this unwavering discipline, the warrior takes joy in the journey and joy in working with others. This joy is like music, which celebrates its own rhythm and melody. The celebration is continuous, in spite of the ups and downs of life.

Adapted from Slogan 20 in Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior: Book and Card Set, by Chogyam Trungpa. To subscribe to weekly Trungpa quotes, see more quotes online, or read the Ocean of Dharma blog, visit their website at http://oceanofdharma.com

Sanskrit for FAITH = SHRADDHA

Iyengar’s definition of Shraddha from Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Pada I, Sutra 20

SHRADDHA = trust which comes from revelation, faith, confidence, reverence

Kitchen Dream

In my room over the kitchen
in Barranco, the shadow of incense
curls across the wooden floor
I lean over the kingdom
of my possessions, and just like that
one day
the smoke will stop

A pigeon lands outside my door
and coos coming in and
out of silence
like a life
lit up for a moment
like someone at the mouth of a river
rushing out to sea.
