LEVEL I BASICS YOGA CLASS
Mondays: 10:00-11:30 am
Mountain View Studio in Woodstock

This class is in response to all of you who have complained that the Wednesday Level I Class is too hard! Here is the perfect class for you. It is shorter in length, and it is the perfect class for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS to yoga. Every pose will be done with careful attention to detail, slowly, so no one is left out. There will be NO Sun Salutations, NO jumpings, NO headstand, and a LONG final relaxation at the end.

WHY IYENGAR YOGA?
Iyengar Yoga is recognized worldwide as a precise and safe method of yoga. In Iyengar yoga, while alignment and accuracy in the postures are emphasized, there is the acknowledgment that the body sometimes needs some help to get there, so various props are used. With the use of props practitioners of all ages and abilities can work with safety and less effort. Mr. B.K.S. Iyengar, age 91, is still teaching and practicing today in India. I have traveled four times to study directly with his family at the Institute there.

WHY TAKE THIS CLASS?

  1. You take yoga classes around town and keep getting hurt, this class is for you.
  2. Other classes go too fast, this class is for you.
  3. All the other classes are full of young girls who can do everything you can’t do, this class is for you.
  4. You want to become strong AND flexible, this class is for you.
  5. You want an experienced teacher who knows how to work with your issues, this class is for you. (I’ll do my best. I am the most experienced teacher up here — many local teachers come to my classes.)
  6. I am the only teacher upstate who has studied directly with the Iyengars. Currently I am a Certified Iyengar Intro I Teacher. I also have certification in two other schools of yoga, Sivananda Yoga 1994 and the original one year Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training program completed in 1997. I have been teaching yoga for 17 years.

This class will be primarily based around STANDING POSES, which help increase strength, stability, confidence, energy and vitality.

ABOUT CLASS LEVELS:
Level I is the perfect introduction to yoga. All postures will be taught clearly with attention to alignment in the method of BKS Iyengar of India. This method is known for its precision and meditation in action. If you are not familiar with Iyengar yoga please take this class and get a good foundation for the next level.

General Level, all students at all levels are welcome. This class will have options for the more advanced students. The basics of Level I will be reinforced and built upon. If you are a regular practicing yogi, but new to Iyengar yoga, please come to this class before attending Level II-III. If you have never practiced yoga before, please start in Level I.

PRIVATE YOGA LESSONS:
I also offer private lessons, $100/ hour, $140/ hour and a half.
A Private Yoga Session is a great treat to get yourself back into practice. And it’s an absolutely necessity if you have issues/injuries that won’t be able to be addressed in a group class. Many students start with a few private lessons before attending group classes to have a foundation to work from and to gain confidence in the basic poses. We can focus on anything you want help with.
