Class Sequences
Traditionally in the Iyengar System, students who want a class sequence would WRITE IT DOWN themselves, then go ask the teacher if they got it right. It’s a very powerful process to mentally go over the class, and remember the details taught and the sequence of asanas.
So PLEASE use the sequences listed here AFTER you have written them down yourself, to confirm what you remember. And pay attention to the things you forgot. Why did you happen to forget that asana? Did you not like it? How does it fit in with the sequence? Why was it there in the first place? etc.
This is also a good way to learn the Sanskrit names of the asanas.
Here’s a hint about writing down sequences. Don’t try and do it right after class. Let the class settle, digest into your bones and fibers. Then, after dinner or when you are quiet, sit down and try to remember what you did. Start wherever you can remember, then free-flow, let it come. Work forward and backward. Remember the salient points that made sense to you. This is the best way to process a class. This is what we do when we study at the Iyengar Institute in Pune. It is a very important part of the learning process. Only after you have your framework down, check with other students or with me. It makes more sense that way.
