LOCATION / DIRECTIONS:

MOUNTAIN VIEW STUDIO, Woodstock. At the center of Woodstock (the Village Green, Houst Hardware) turn onto Rock City Road heading up towards Overlook Mountain. Go past the municipal parking lot on your left. Then make a LEFT at the first road AFTER the parking lot onto Mountain View Avenue. Pass the small artists’ cemetery on the right, curve around to the left and you will see the sign for Mountain View Studio. Turn right into the parking lot. No car pooling necessary!

HOME STUDIO, 21 Witchtree Road, Woodstock, NY 12498. Witchtree Road is the road opposite the Maverick Knolls complex on Highway 375 (the road between Route 28 and Route 212). Turn onto Witchtree, and go 1/4 mile to the fourth residential driveway on your left. This is my drive. It is marked with a black mailbox with a white flower and #21 painted on it. Take it to the first house, a red barn, and park.

ABOUT CLASS LEVELS:

LEVEL I is the perfect introduction to yoga. All postures will be taught clearly with attention to alignment in the method of BKS Iyengar of India. This method is known for its precision and meditation in action. If you are not familiar with Iyengar yoga please take this class and get a good foundation for the next level.

MONDAY’S LEVEL I is a more basic class: it is a shorter length of time; good if you have injuries; good if you don’t want to work so hard; and an excellent class for absolute beginners. Modifications of the postures given. Long final relaxation.

WEDNESDAY’S LEVEL I-II is good for students who: 1) are in decent shape but have never done yoga; 2) have been practicing yoga, but are new to yengar Yoga; 3) it is a good review for returning students who want to work slower. Sirsasana (headstand) will be introduced but students unable to do it will have options of poses working up to it. If you have injuries, are an absolute beginner, or are really out of shape, come to Monday’s Level I instead, we work much slower there.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT RESTORATIVE There is nothing special needed for this class. All students are invited, from all schools of yoga and with all levels of experience. Come, get the props and blankets out of the cabinet, and prepare of an hour plus of guided relaxation in a number of different poses. Simple pranayama will be introduced, but if you are too tired or stressed, JUST REST! Set yourself up for deep healing and relaxation.  ON HOLD UNTIL FALL.

FRIDAY’S LEVEL II-III class is a challenging intermediate/advanced level 2-hour class. You should be comfortable in Sirsasana (headstand, with the wall is OK), Handstand, Urdhva Dhanurasana (full wheel pose with straight arms), Salamba Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) and Sanskrit asana names. At least two solid year’s experience in yoga practice is necessary (Iyengar preferably) or my permission to attend the class. This is a strenuous and meditative two hour class. If you are having a lot of injuries right now, please attend Level I, or Level I-II class or take a Private Lesson so we can work out alternative postures for you.

GENERAL LEVEL all students at all levels are welcome. This class will have options for the more advanced students. The Iyengar basics of Level I will be reinforced and built upon. If you are a regular practicing yogi, but new to Iyengar yoga, please come to this class before attending Level II-III. If you have never practiced yoga before, please start in Level I. You should have at least 6 months of any yoga experience before coming to this class.
