WINTER INTENSIVE

Filed under: Uncategorized — bb @ 2:13 pm

Winter is upon us, and the urge to hibernate or escape is here. Personally, I will be doing a mini escape for the next three weeks, but I’ll be back in time to sponsor this exciting Winter Intensive for Woodstockers, New York City escapees, and other vacationing yogis. Read all the way to the end for some significant discounts on registration. I will see you the first week in February.

Discover the Heart of Iyengar Yoga Practice
Winter Woodstock Iyengar Yoga Intensive
February 20-25, 2009

“It can be that over time many of us lose the heart for practice, the initial thrill. Practice becomes routine, somethine we have to do out of duty towards a system. Practice is then simply an accumulation of information and instructions. We forget the poetry and are only concerned with the words.”
–Christian Pisano

Come to Woodstock & join international senior Iyengar teachers for a fluid intensive of yoga classes designed for you to discover the heart of your practice.

Kevin Gardiner
The Heart in the Art of Yoga
Sat & Sun, Feb. 21-22, 10-1, 3-5 both days, $200 ($190 advance registration)

This two day workshop will be for Level I-II Iyengar Yoga students with a good command of Iyengar basics. The afternoon sessions will build on principles taught in the morning, and Sunday’s classes will be based on Saturday’s. We are very lucky to have Kevin returning to the states so soon this year. He is coming for the Mary Dunn Tribute in NYC the previous weekend, so by the time HE gets to Woodstock, he’ll be ALL heart to share with us for this ten hour intensive.

Students signing up for the whole weekend will have priority for available spaces. Only if space is available will you be able to register for a single day session ($120/day), preferably Saturday, unless you are a regular student of Kevin’s.

Kevin Gardiner celebrated thirty years of practice with the turn of the Millennium. He is a Certified Intermediate Junior 3 Iyengar Instructor and has made extended trips to India to study with the Iyengars in Pune. In 2005 he attended the Yoga Journal Conference where he studied directly with B.K.S. Iyengar. A core faculty member and co-founder of the Iyengar Institute of Greater New York, in 2006 he relocated to Budapest. Kevin is precise and detailed in his instruction, graceful in demonstration and has a lighthearted and off-beat sense of humor. A class with Kevin is a grand opportunity deepen your yoga practice. p.s. Kevin is blogging! Go to www.kevingardiner.net for the link.

Christian Pisano & June Whittaker
Put Goals Aside, Seek Tranquility
Wednesday, Feb. 25, 4-7pm, $60 ($50 advance registration)

When we observe we are no longer stimulated by a goal-orientated practice, we are often confronted with meaningless routine. But this could well be a necessary passage allowing us to ask ourselves the essential question: What was the initial thrill, what triggered our commitment to a practice? The question ‘Who am I?’ urges us to explore the texture of the body-mind organism. All levels and students of all yogas are invited to this early evening workshop to pursue this exploration.

Christian Pisano has been practicing Iyengar Yoga for many years. More than 20 years ago he lived in Pune India for several years in order to be close to and learn directly from his guru, Yogacharya Shri B.K.S. Iyengar. Christian holds an Advanced Teacher’s Certificate. He continues to study with the Iyengars annually in Pune. With his wife June Whittaker, herself a Senior Level 3 Certified Teacher, they jointly direct the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Nice, France. www.anuttara.com

I am honored to have such a high level yogi coming to teach in Woodstock. I have practiced right next to Christian in Pune many times. There are only a handful of Advanced Iyengar teaches in the world. Christian is sensitive, wise and has a brilliant practice. Come and get some real gems of wisdom for your winter yoga hibernation sadhana.
